About us

A farm that carries on, thanks to four walls and a roof.

Valentijn grew up among the cows and runs the dairy farm together with his parents. Marissa used to work with children and now, since we opened in April 2025, welcomes the guests in season. Together we are trying to take over his parents' farm, and the tiny houses help us pay for that.

That means every night you sleep here literally helps build a farm that lasts. And that you are not booking an anonymous holiday park, but a place at our home.

Small house, big view.

Lovingly furnished and surprisingly complete. Downstairs a real kitchen, a seating area and a private bathroom. Upstairs, under the sloping roof, the double bed on one side and the Kindernest on the other. Outside, a terrace looking out over the land, where in the evening only the cows still have something to say.

Just the two of you

Sleep in, and nothing else you have to do.

No through road, no programme, no crowds. Just a beautifully furnished house, a terrace that catches the evening sun and a view that runs all the way to the edge of the woods.

Boots on, there is work to do.

For children this is not a holiday address but a big adventure. They can really help out on the farm, and at night they sleep upstairs in their own Kindernest.

What about the teenagers?

For small children a farm is a treat, everyone gets that. But what are older kids supposed to do here, without a theme park around the corner?

The answer surprises most parents: that age in particular likes it here just fine. Because they are not treated as children, but as an extra pair of hands. Riding the tractor, doing real work, and experiencing something no one in their class has done.

Who wants to help?

This is not a holiday park with a playground next door, but a small dairy farm that simply keeps running while you are here. Around sixty cows live here, and we enjoy working with them every day. You are welcome to join: watch the milking, feed the calves, come out to the meadow to fetch the cows, or just play in the hay barn.

  1. 7:00 Milking The day starts in the barn. Early risers can come along and see up close how it is really done. Watching is always allowed
  2. 7:30 Bedding the stalls Fresh wood shavings in the cubicles, so the cows lie soft all day. Grab a wheelbarrow and spread away.
  3. 8:30 Bottle-feeding the calves Off to the calves with the teat bucket. They push and slurp and almost pull the bucket out of your hands. Just ask who likes doing this most. The favourite
  4. 9:00 Tapping fresh milk Straight from the tank into your own bottle. Warm, creamy, and nothing like the supermarket.
  5. Always On the tractor with Grandpa Henk Feeding, up into the tractor, a quick trip out to the fields. He likes nothing better than a little helper beside him. The highlight
  6. Always Hay barn, go-karts and the cow brush Playing in the hay barn is allowed, and two big Mammoet pedal go-karts are ready to go. Spot a cow getting a massage from our cow brush? That never stops being funny. Always free to use
  7. Always Healthy cows first Our cows rest in deep-bedded stalls and can go outside all year round when the weather allows. In winter we add roughage we grow ourselves. Milk yield is not our number one, animal health is.
  8. 19:00 Evening milking And once more at the end of the day. Anyone who missed it in the morning gets a second chance.
  9. 21:00 Winding down Sitting outside, hearing the cows chew the cud, and nothing else. That is the real programme.

Henk has driven on this land his whole life. He has patience, he has stories, and he always has a job a child can help with. Just ask if you can come along, he hardly ever says no.

Farming with nature

Our cows keep the nature reserve in shape.

From mid-June to October our cows graze in the nature reserves next door. They eat the grass and fertilise it again, and so the cycle stays complete.

That manure attracts insects, and those insects in turn bring special birds that come to breed here. It sounds odd, but a grazing cow is good news for nature here. We manage the plots together with the Limburg water board.

And then there is that one moment in spring.

The first time the cows are let out again after winter. They jump, they run, they do not know what to do with themselves. Anyone who has seen it once never forgets it. Feel free to ask when it is happening.

For the kids

The Farm Passport.

On arrival every child gets their own little passport. Every job you do earns a stamp. All full? Then you are officially a Farmhand of the Sluffert, and you can show that to everyone at home.

Passport full! On departure you get your diploma. And of course you are welcome to come and help again next year.

't Washökske

Shopping on our own farm.

In 't Washökske you will find a washing machine, a dryer, a fridge and a counter with sink. Handy after a day outdoors, and indispensable with small children.

In summer our harvest is there too. We grow vegetables and fruit in our own greenhouse, and sell part of it in the wash house for a small amount. So there is no need to get in the car.

Every evening you get an email: a basket tomorrow? You tick what you want, so nothing goes to waste. In the morning the basket is at your door. You sit down on the terrace, the cows are already out, and nothing else is needed.

Going electric on holiday? You can charge here too.

We do not have a fixed charging point yet, that will probably come later. You can still charge your electric car with us: through a heavy-duty extension cable from the farmyard, so you top up overnight while you sleep. Handy in the countryside, where charging points are few and far between. Just mention it on arrival and we put the cable out for you. For the e-bike there is an ordinary socket at the parking spot.

The area

In the middle of nowhere, close to everything.

We are in the hamlet of Sluffert, on the narrowest strip of Limburg. The cycling and walking routes literally start at the gate.

Honestly, this is what most guests end up doing. Watching the sky colour over the meadow in the evening, you do not need a route for that.

Walking the Pieterpad? Sleep a night among the cows.

We lie on stage 24, Montfort – Sittard. From the trail near Echt it is about 6.5 kilometres to our farm, a flat stretch through the fields. You sleep in 't Sikkelhuuske with your own bathroom, in the morning the breakfast basket is at the door, and you can wash and dry your clothes.
